Hey, y’all!
We're in that early-February stretch where the holidays feel like they were six months ago but Valentine's Day is somehow already breathing down your neck.
My wife and I have been in full "hunker down" mode lately, so this weekend we're forcing ourselves out of the house.
And the Valentine's pet portraits at Brook Run are probably our move. Your dog might hate the backdrop, you'll get one decent shot, and it'll take 20 minutes. That's a win.
If you're looking for a solid dinner option, Kid Cashew on Roswell Road has been our go-to lately.
Wood-fired everything, great patio when the weather cooperates, and you can actually hear each other talk, which shouldn't be a high bar, but here we are.
Quick practical note: mornings have been hovering near freezing this week, so give yourself a few extra minutes on the road and maybe toss a towel in the trunk if you're hitting any parks.
Muddy shoes in the car is a rookie move I've made too many times.
Your weekend planner for Thu, Feb 5 through Sun, Feb 8 is below. Grab one or two things that sound good and lock them in before the week gets away from you.

Tax season has a funny way of making you look at all your finances, and your insurance is worth a second look too.
February is one of the best times to review your coverage because you're already in "paperwork mode" and nothing is actively on fire (literally or figuratively).
A lot changes in a year.
Maybe you refinanced, added a car, finished a renovation, or your teen started driving.
Any of those can shift what you actually need (and what you're overpaying for).
Peachy Insurance is an Atlanta-based company built to move quickly and keep things simple: fast quoting, clear explanations, and licensed professionals who'll help check your coverage without the runaround.
A few things Peachy can help you review in 10–15 minutes:
Home: dwelling limit vs. current value, liability coverage, and whether recent upgrades (kitchen, deck, finished basement) are reflected in your policy
Auto: mileage updates, teen driver discounts, comprehensive vs. collision, and rental/roadside coverage you might be missing. Or paying for and not using
Bundle check: whether pairing home + auto saves you money for your situation (no pressure — just clear options)

🐶 Valentine's Pet Portraits at Brook Run Dog Park
Brook Run Park
4770 N Peachtree Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338
Saturday, February 7 from 12-2PM
$25 per hour slot (proceeds benefit the Brook Run Dog Park Association)
Details: Dunwoody Parks & Rec
Got a dog (or a dog-obsessed kid) who'd tolerate a quick photo op? This Valentine-themed mini shoot is an easy, local way to get a frame-worthy pic without committing to a full studio session.
Expect a simple setup with festive backdrops and quick time slots, perfect if the weekend is already packed. It's designed for pets, but past years have included photos of you + your pet, so families can jump in too.
Practical tip: Pre-register if you want a guaranteed spot. Since it's at the dog park, plan for muddy paws if the ground's damp. Paper towels in the car are a lifesaver.

🍴 Kid Cashew
This wood-fired neighborhood spot is a reliable "everyone can find something" pick.
The menu leans Mediterranean-inspired with award-winning salads (the super grain and avocado salad gets regular shoutouts), small plates for sharing, solid burgers and sandwiches, and butcher cuts cooked over the wood fire grill.
It feels a step up from basic weeknight fare without being fussy or overpriced.
Their spacious patio is a big plus when the weather cooperates, and the indoor vibe is casual and trendy with moderate noise levels, so you can actually have a conversation.
It's an easy meet-up option for families or groups who want something that works for different tastes, whether that's a kale bowl or a double-patty smashburger.
They take reservations, offer delivery and takeout, and have happy hour specials if you're looking to keep it light.
Pro tip: go a little earlier for an easier park-and-walk experience along Roswell Rd, especially on weekends when the place tends to fill up.

🌳 Jones Bridge Park
4901 East Jones Bridge Road, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092
If your weekend needs fresh air without the “big outing” overhead, Jones Bridge Park is an easy win.
It’s one of those spots that instantly feels like you left the suburbs.
River views, woods, and plenty of room for kids to burn energy (or for adults to take a quiet lap and reset their brain).
The vibe here is simple: park, walk a bit, find a river overlook, and let the Chattahoochee do its calming thing.
Bonus points if you bring coffee and treat it like a mini “screens down” hour.
Easy plan (30–60 minutes)
Quick reset: Start with a slow walk toward the river overlook areas (the best payoff-to-effort ratio), then loop back through the meadow/picnic pavilion area.
Kid-friendly add-on: Let the kids hit the playground first, then do the river stroll — it makes the walk feel like a reward instead of a negotiation.
Good to know
Hours: open sunrise to sunset
Amenities: restrooms, playground, pavilions, meadow, river overlook spots

Tax season is officially here, and if your "filing system" is still a junk drawer, a shoebox, or a vague promise to deal with it later, this is the week to spend ten minutes getting ahead of the stress.
📋 The 10-minute tax prep reset
1) Round up your documents before they scatter
W-2s and 1099s should be arriving (or already have). Check your mail and your email, since many come digitally now.
Gather mortgage interest statements (1098), childcare receipts, and medical expense summaries in one folder, physical or digital.
If you freelanced, sold anything online, or earned side income in 2025, pull those records together now before you forget.
2) Check last year's return for easy wins
Open last year's return and look at what you claimed. It is the fastest way to jog your memory on deductions you might miss this time around.
If your life changed in 2025 (new baby, new home, job change, childcare costs), flag those items now so your preparer or software catches them.
3) Pick your method and book early
If you use a CPA or tax preparer, book your appointment now. Wait lists fill fast, and early filers tend to get refunds sooner.
If you DIY, make sure your software login still works and update your payment info before the rush. Helpful resource: IRS Free File options
Set a calendar reminder for April 15 so the deadline does not sneak up on you.
