What's up, neighbors!

Snap!Dragon's Garden opens Saturday at Brook Run Park and if you've got kids, this is where your morning is going. It's the Dunwoody Community Garden's annual live art and plant exhibit, and opening day has free popcorn, live music, and kids' crafts running from 10 to noon. The exhibit sticks around through April 4, but Saturday is when it actually feels like an event. We're heading there right after the farmers market, which runs until noon at the same park. You can knock out both without moving your car.

For Saturday night, we're finally booking NoriFish. It's on the lower level of an apartment building off Springwood Connector in Sandy Springs, which sounds odd, but walk in and you'll understand immediately. We've been hearing about the omakase for months and keep putting it off. No more excuses.

If you've still got Come From Away on your list, it runs through Sunday. Sunday's matinee at Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center is a good low-pressure way to close out the weekend.

Full planner below, plus local news on the Dunwoody school closure situation, Sandy Springs finally getting its own name on your mail, and a dog named Eugene who needs a house.

Late March is when Georgia weather gets unpredictable fast. Hail, wind, heavy rain, the occasional fallen tree. The claims we see most often in spring are the ones people assumed they were covered for but weren't.

Two things worth a quick check right now:

  • Wind and hail deductible: A lot of policies have a separate, higher deductible for storm damage. If yours does, do you know what it is?

  • Dwelling limit: Home values in East Cobb have gone up. If you haven't looked at your policy in two or three years, your rebuild coverage may not reflect what it would actually cost today.

And if you're putting Georgia's new tax rebate toward a spring project (new roof, deck, or HVAC) a quick call before you start can flag whether your coverage needs to catch up.

Peachy is Atlanta-based, licensed, and built to give you a straight answer without the runaround.

🌺 Snap!Dragon's Garden Opening Reception

Brook Run Park
4770 N Peachtree Rd, Dunwoody, GA 30338
Saturday, March 28
10:00 am–12:00 pm
Free

The name is a plant pun — snapdragons — and it's been earning its own little cult following in Dunwoody for five years now.

The Dunwoody Community Garden turns the community garden at Brook Run into a live art and plant exhibit for a week every spring, and Saturday is opening day.

Opening day is the move. Free popcorn, live music, kids crafts, and garden tours all run from 10 to noon.

After that, the exhibit is open daily through April 4, but it's a regular park visit. Saturday is the actual party.

If you're already hitting the farmers market that morning — and you should be, it runs until noon — the garden is right there.

Just stay a little longer.

Bring the kids, take some photos, enjoy the fact that spring is finally doing what it's supposed to do.

🍣 NoriFish (Sandy Springs)

1115 Springwood Connector #2000, Sandy Springs, GA 30328

This is our go-to when we want to do a real dinner and actually feel like we went somewhere. It sits on the lower level of an apartment building off Springwood Connector, which sounds like a weird setup, but the room feels deliberate the second you walk in. Good for a date night, a birthday, or honestly just any night where you want the meal to be the whole plan.

The omakase is what everyone keeps coming back for, and the reviews back that up — people are comparing it to spots with Michelin stars, which is not something you expect to say about Sandy Springs. If you go a la carte, the yuzu ponzu oysters are the move to start, and the nigiri tasting is what I'd order if I wasn't doing the omakase. The o-toro and uni both get called out constantly in reviews. Go with an appetite.

Dinner only, Tuesday through Saturday starting at 5pm. Closed Sunday and Monday. You'll want a reservation, especially on weekends. Free parking if you scan the QR code when you get inside — worth knowing before you leave the car.

🧸Kazoo Toys (Buckhead)

3718 Roswell Rd NE, Atlanta, GA 30342

It's a short hop to Buckhead, but if you've been defaulting to Amazon or Target for birthday gifts, this one is worth the detour.

Joe and Whitney Novak opened Kazoo in 2013 because they wanted something better for neighborhood kids.

More than a decade later it's still independently owned, still staffed by people who actually know what they're selling, and still stocking toys you will not find at a big box store.

The range runs from newborn all the way to teens, with a dedicated section for special needs and developmental play alongside the Legos, puzzles, board games, and arts and crafts.

Every spring they host their Clothesline Art Show, where neighborhood kids submit artwork and the whole community comes in to vote. Right now they're doing Easter basket fillers you can pick up curbside starting March 23rd, pre-packed with hand-selected items so the surprises stay surprises. Free gift wrapping too.

🏫 Two Dunwoody elementary schools are on the closure list

The DeKalb County School District released its second round of school closure scenarios on March 20, and Dunwoody families are at the center of it.

Vanderlyn Elementary has been pulled back from straight closure and is now proposed as a high school annex or ninth-grade academy for Dunwoody High, which is already over capacity by roughly 500 students.

Kingsley Elementary is still slated for closure, with projections showing its enrollment hovering around 392 students by 2030.

A third scenario drops in April, and the school board won't vote on final changes until late fall.

The feedback window runs through May.

🏗️ 32 Dunwoody streets are getting resurfaced — your street might be on the list

The City of Dunwoody kicked off its 2026 Street Paving Plan the week of March 22, targeting 32 streets across 13.8 lane miles.

The city is spending $2.75 million in SPLOST funds, with another $564,000 from a state GDOT grant.

Streets on the list include Chamblee Dunwoody Road north of Roberts Drive, Jett Ferry Road, Redfield Road, and Trailridge Drive, among others.

Over 90 percent of city streets are now in fair or better condition, which the city credits to steady annual investment.

The full street list and a paving map are on the city's website so you can check whether your block is in the rotation this year.

🐾 Meet Eugene

He'll run when you first walk in. That's just Eugene being Eugene. He's a 6-year-old orange shorthair who needs a little time before he decides you're worth getting close to, and once he does, there's no going back.

Give him a few weeks to settle in and the whole script flips. He starts circling closer, then closer still. He'll purr so hard you can feel it. He makes biscuits in your lap. He'll brush up against your legs constantly because he wants to be near you. A few months in and he's on the couch, he's in the bed at night, and he acts like he's always lived there.

The one thing worth knowing: Eugene has tried apartment life twice and it didn't work. He needs space to observe from a distance and gradually come around, and he didn't have enough room in either place. A house with some square footage is the right setup. He also does well with cats and dogs, likes having a companion nearby, and will sometimes chase another cat around just to play or groom them. If you've already got a pet at home, that actually works in his favor.

🆓 Little Free Library Walk

Start in your neighborhood, or anchor at Brook Run Park (4770 N Peachtree Rd, Dunwoody) or Georgetown Park (1105 Dunwoody Village Pkwy, Dunwoody)

You want a reason to get outside without turning it into a whole production. This is it. Walk to a little wooden book box, grab something, leave something if you've got it. Kids treat it like a treasure hunt. You just get out of the house.

What it is: Little Free Libraries are small book-sharing boxes scattered around neighborhoods and parks. The whole thing runs on a swap — take a book, leave one (or don't). No membership, no checkout, no rules. Just books sitting there waiting for someone to actually read them. There are dozens of registered stops around Dunwoody, Sandy Springs, and Peachtree Corners, so you can string together a decent walk without a lot of planning. Brook Run is a natural anchor since the farmers market is there Saturday mornings anyway. Georgetown Park has one too, plus a playground and open lawn if you want to extend the stop.

What to expect: You open a small box and find a random mix. Some are better stocked than others — that's part of it. Bring a book or two you're done with. Let the kids each pick one. Budget about 10 minutes per stop if you're actually browsing.

Good to know: Don't clean out a box. Leave plenty for whoever comes next. Skip anything wet or damaged. If you want to build a longer route, the Little Free Library map shows every registered stop near you.

Cost: Free. No parking fees at either park.

You Just Got a Tax Refund. Before You Spend It on Home Projects, Check Your Coverage.

Georgia just approved up to $500 back for most households. And yeah, a lot of that money is heading straight into spring projects. New roof, kitchen refresh, deck expansion, whole new systems. The problem: your homeowner's insurance might not know about any of it.

Here's why it matters: your policy is built on what your home was worth on the day you bought it (or the last time you updated it). If you've added square footage, upgraded systems, put in expensive fixtures, or significantly improved the property, your dwelling coverage might be thousands of dollars short. When something goes wrong, you'll find out too late.

1. Pull up your current declarations page and check your dwelling limit. This is the dollar amount your insurance company will pay to rebuild your house if it's a total loss. In East Cobb, home values have gone up. If you haven't reviewed your dwelling limit in 2–3 years, it probably doesn't match what it would actually cost to rebuild today. Get a rough rebuild estimate from your contractor or a local builder before you decide if the number is real.

2. Tell Peachy about the project before you start. If you're adding square footage, replacing a roof with upgraded materials, or putting in a new HVAC or electrical system, a quick call can flag whether your coverage needs to change. Some upgrades actually improve your policy (new roof, updated electrical). Others might expose gaps you don't know about. It's not complicated, but it matters.

3. Ask about coverage for the materials while they're sitting on your property. If you're ordering a $15,000 roof or $20,000 in materials and they're stacked in your yard for weeks, standard homeowner's policies sometimes don't cover theft or weather damage to materials that haven't been installed yet. It's an edge case, but it happens. Know where you stand before the truck backs up.

Not sure if your current coverage actually matches your home's real value? Peachy can pull your declarations page, walk you through it, and flag what might be short — no runaround, no pressure. Especially right now, when a lot of people are about to spend real money on projects.
