What's up, neighbors!

Come From Away is running at City Springs through March 29 and this is a regional premiere. Nobody around here has done a local production of this show before. It's 100 minutes, no intermission, and everyone we've talked to says it delivers. If you've been meaning to grab tickets, don't wait too long because seats are moving.

Saturday morning we're heading to the DHA Farmers Market at Brook Run Park. No agenda, just coffee and whatever looks good. If you're around that afternoon, Pontoon Brewing is throwing their 8-year anniversary party with special releases and a vendor market. Dog and kid friendly, so bring the whole crew.

Saturday night we're leaning toward Through the Looking Glass at Vino Venue. Wine, cheese, and a silent auction benefiting the Dunwoody Preservation Trust. Feels like a solid date night without having to fight traffic into the city. My wife is already in.

Sunday the Folktale Festival takes over the Dunwoody Nature Center from 10 to 4. Storytellers, a farmyard, food vendors, arts and crafts. No rush, no schedule. We'll probably show up after lunch and stay until someone melts down.

Also this week: Sandy Springs finally got its ZIP codes fixed, MARTA is overhauling fares and bus routes, and a ramen spot on Roswell Road worth the parking headache.

You're about to get some money back from the state. Before you spend it, spend five minutes making sure the stuff you already own is actually protected.

Georgia's new tax rebate means $250 back for single filers and $500 for couples. The homeowner relief grant could save you another $500 on property taxes. That's real money. And a good reminder to check whether your coverage still matches what you've got.

Here's what we mean: if your home's value has gone up (and in East Cobb, it probably has), your dwelling limit may not reflect what it would actually cost to rebuild. If you bought a car in the last year or two, your auto policy might still be based on the old one. These gaps don't show up until something goes wrong.

Spring is also when severe weather picks back up in north Georgia. Hail, wind, fallen trees. The claims we see most often are the ones people assumed they were covered for but weren't.

Peachy Insurance is Atlanta-based, licensed, and built to make this painless. No runaround, no upselling. Just a straight answer on where you stand.

A few things worth checking while it's on your mind:

  • Home: Whether your dwelling limit keeps up with your home's current value, and whether your wind and hail deductible is where you want it

  • Auto: Comprehensive coverage for storm damage and whether your policy covers a rental if your car is out of commission

  • Rebate timing: If you're putting that refund toward a home project this spring, let us know — upgrades can change what your policy needs to cover

🎭 Folktale Festival

Sun, Mar 22
10:00 AM–4:00 PM
Dunwoody Nature Center (5343 Roberts Dr, Dunwoody)
$15 (Members $12, Under 3 Free)

The Dunwoody Nature Center turns into a whole different place for this one.

Storytellers set up around the property, there's a working farmyard for the kids, arts and crafts stations, and food vendors spread out across the grounds.

It runs from 10 to 4 so there's zero pressure to rush. Show up after lunch, leave when you're done. Nobody's watching the clock.

This isn't a bounce house situation. It's the kind of thing where your kids are actually engaged and you're not standing around counting down the minutes until you can leave.

The Nature Center is already one of the best spots in Dunwoody, and this is the one day a year they go all out with it.

At $15 a ticket that's basically the cost of a mediocre lunch. Bring the whole crew and make a Sunday out of it. Under 3 is FREE, so if you've got little ones, this is a no-brainer.

🍜 JINYA Ramen Bar

5975 Roswell Rd, Suite B217, Sandy Springs

This is where my wife and I go when the weather turns and we want something warm that actually fills you up. It's tucked into a corner of the shopping center off Roswell Road, so it's easy to miss, but the inside is sleek and modern. Good for a weeknight dinner or a casual date night, though weekends can get packed with a wait.

The Tonkotsu Black is what most regulars swear by, and it's rich without being heavy. The spicy chicken ramen is another safe bet if you like a little kick, and they let you pick your spice level. My wife usually gets the chicken wonton ramen and adds an egg. Don't skip the takoyaki or the gyoza to start. They also have a birria ramen that's been getting a lot of buzz lately, a Mexican-Japanese fusion thing that works better than it sounds. Vegan options are solid here too, which isn't always easy to find with ramen.

Just know the space is on the smaller side, so if you're going Friday or Saturday night, expect a wait or call ahead. Takeout packaging is good if you'd rather eat at home. Free parking in the lot, but it's a busy area so you might circle once or twice.

🧘 Yonder Yoga Perimeter

If you've been saying "I should try yoga" for six months but haven't actually gone, Yonder makes it easy to stop overthinking it. Their Perimeter location sits right at Ashford Lane next to Superica and Jeni's, with a big surface lot so parking is never the thing that keeps you from going.

They run infrared-heated vinyasa classes all day long, plus yin and a few specialty flows like hip-hop. The room sits around 90 degrees, so you will sweat. Reviewers talk a lot about the instructors. They push you but they're good at making beginners feel like they belong, even when the person next to them is doing a handstand. Mats are free to borrow, and towel rentals are available, so you don't need to show up with a bag full of gear. Showers and lockers are on site if you're coming from work or heading somewhere after.

First-timers check in at the front desk for a quick tour. Get there about 10 minutes early so you're not scrambling.

Price: $$ (First month unlimited is $40)

📬 Sandy Springs is finally the default city on nearly all of its ZIP codes

After 20 years of pushing for the change, Sandy Springs has gotten approval from the U.S. Postal Service to be listed as the default city for seven of its eight ZIP codes: 30319, 30327, 30328, 30338, 30339, 30342, and 30350.

The one exception is 30092, which covers a small part of the city's northeastern corner and is shared with Peachtree Corners. The updates are rolling out over the next few weeks.

This isn't just a civic pride win. When those ZIP codes defaulted to Atlanta, online purchases sometimes charged Atlanta's sales tax rate instead of Sandy Springs', and GPS systems routed people to the wrong city.

Mayor Rusty Paul called it "a major win for residents and businesses who proudly call Sandy Springs home."

🏫 DeKalb releasing new school closure scenarios tomorrow, Dunwoody council to hear from district next week

DeKalb County Schools is releasing its second round of closure scenarios on Friday, March 20, with Vanderlyn and Kingsley elementary schools in Dunwoody still on the list from the initial plan unveiled in February. The first scenario proposed closing 27 schools countywide over six to eight years to address a district that has roughly 110,000 seats and only 90,000 students. The updated scenarios are expected to be cluster-specific and include details on what happens to closed buildings.

Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch called the process "a real mess" at a Greater Perimeter Chamber breakfast this week, and the city has invited DCSD staff to present directly to council at its March 23 work session. Community feedback sessions run through the end of March, and no closures will happen in the 2026–27 school year, but the window to weigh in is narrowing. If your kids attend a Dunwoody cluster school, this is the one to pay attention to.

🚌 MARTA's new Breeze fare system launches March 28, bus routes change April 18

MARTA is replacing its entire fare system starting March 28. The new Better Breeze setup adds tap-to-pay with a bank card or mobile wallet, new touchscreen vending machines, and a new Breeze app.

Your current silver Breeze card and Breeze Mobile 2.0 app will stop working May 2, so use up any remaining balance before then.

If you can't spend it down, you'll be able to transfer balances to a new account between May 2 and October 30.

On April 18, the NextGen Bus Network kicks in with Perimeter-specific route changes: a new Route 88 connecting Dunwoody Station to Chamblee Station along Chamblee Dunwoody Road, expanded Route 87 service on Johnson Ferry Road, and all routes running seven days a week.

Route 150 (Dunwoody Village) is being replaced by Route 88, and Route 141 service to Sandy Springs Station is ending.

Perimeter Connects is offering 10 free rides on a Breeze card so you can test the changes ahead of time. Fill out the form on their site while supplies last.

🚗 Dunwoody moves to cut speed limits on Ashford Dunwoody Road and other streets

Dunwoody City Council voted unanimously on March 9 to submit revised speed limits to the Georgia Department of Transportation for approval.

The biggest change: Ashford Dunwoody Road would drop from 45 mph to 35 mph on the roughly two-mile stretch from I-285 north to Mount Vernon Road.

Several other streets are on the list too, including Vermack Road, Womack Road, Winters Chapel Road, and Crown Pointe Parkway, plus new school zone designations near Austin Elementary, Dunwoody Elementary, Dunwoody Christian, and Endeavor Montessori.

GDOT still has to sign off before anything changes on the ground, and the new limits aren't expected to take effect until 2027.

But if you drive Ashford Dunwoody regularly, the direction is clear.

🐾 Meet Harvey

Mixed breed, adult male, about 3 years old

Harvey came into rescue along with two other dogs, Monty and Junior, after their owner passed away. The rescue already knew Monty from years back, and they weren't about to split up the group. All three came in together.

Of the three, Harvey is the most laid back. He's good with all dogs and has lived with cats before, so a multi-pet household isn't going to faze him. He's a funny looking guy in the best way. Short little legs, a stocky low-rider body, and a bit of gray on his face that makes him look older than he actually is. He's only about three.

His compatibility with kids is listed as unknown, so if you've got little ones at home, just ask the rescue about it before you commit. They're foster-based, so they know their dogs well and can tell you what kind of home would be the best fit.

He's already neutered, vaccinated, and ready to go. Rescue Me Ga is foster-based out of Dunwoody, so visits are by appointment only. Start with an application on their website and they'll set up a time for you to meet him.

🌳 Allen Road Park

83 Allen Rd NE, Sandy Springs 30328

What it is

A small neighborhood park tucked into a residential pocket of Sandy Springs that punches above its weight for how little-known it is. There's a playground, a basketball court, a multipurpose court, a soccer field, picnic areas, and a short walking trail that loops through the green space. It's not a destination park.

It's more of a "we need to get out of the house and we're not trying to drive 20 minutes to do it" park. Perfect for an after-dinner reset when the kids have too much energy and you have too little patience, or a low-key weekend morning when nobody wants to commit to a whole thing.

What to expect

The playground is solid for younger kids. The courts and soccer field give older kids and adults something to do besides stand around watching the swings. The walking trail is short but shaded and flat, so it's good for a stroll, not a workout.

Picnic areas are there if you want to bring snacks or lunch, but don't expect pavilions or grills. It's more of a blanket-on-the-grass situation.

Good to know

Parking is limited, so if you're going on a weekend when the weather's nice, don't be surprised if the small lot is full. There are no public restrooms listed on the city's park page, so plan accordingly. This is a pit-stop park, not an all-day park, and that's exactly what makes it useful. Cost: Free. Always.

Renting a Car for Spring Break? Check Three Things Before You Book

If you're renting a car this month, don't pay for coverage you already have — and don't skip coverage you actually need. Two minutes of homework now saves you a headache at the counter.

1. Check your auto policy first. Most personal auto policies extend collision, comprehensive, and liability to rental cars — but not all of them, and not always outside the U.S. and Canada. If your trip crosses a border, don't assume you're covered.

2. Check your credit card second. Many cards offer rental coverage, but it's usually secondary (your auto policy pays first, the card picks up the rest). It also typically only kicks in if you decline the rental company's damage waiver. Confirm before you rely on it.

3. Ask about the charges nobody mentions. If the rental gets damaged, the company can bill you for downtime, towing, and diminished value — and those charges often aren't covered by your policy or your card. If you're unsure, the rental company's damage waiver might actually be worth it this time.

Not sure what your current policy covers? Peachy can pull up your declarations page and walk you through it in 10 minutes — no runaround, no pressure.
