If you grew up on Lizzie McGuire, clear your Thursday. Hilary Duff is playing Ameris Bank Amphitheatre up in Alpharetta, and it is pure nostalgia worth the short drive north.

Closer to home, the World Cup has the whole Perimeter buzzing. City Springs is throwing a free Fútbol Fever watch party out on City Green on Sunday afternoon, with two giant screens, food trucks, and a few pop-up bars. We are planning to haul out the chairs and post up for the match.

Be honest. You still know every word to "Come Clean," and you are not even a little embarrassed about it.

If you grew up parked in front of Lizzie McGuire after school, Thursday night is yours. Hilary Duff is back on the road for the first time in years, and the Lucky Me Tour lands at Ameris Bank Amphitheatre up in Alpharetta. Short drive north for a straight shot of nostalgia.

She is bringing La Roux along too, the voice behind "Bulletproof," so you get two throwback acts on one ticket.

Grab a sitter, round up the crew you used to text during study hall, and go sing under the stars. Duff has not toured like this in ages, and the lawn seats will not last. If you are going, get them now.

This is where you go when the night is supposed to feel like a little occasion. A birthday. An anniversary. The dinner where you actually want to impress the in-laws.

Valenza has been Brookhaven's Italian spot since 2007, tucked off Dresden Drive with a warm dining room and a quiet, tree-shaded patio that people genuinely fight to book in good weather. The pasta is made by hand in house, and that is the thing people come back for. Reviewers keep naming the bucatini, the spaghettini with meatballs, and the carbonara, and the calamari is the right way to start. If you land there on a Monday, the chicken parm runs as a special.

Save room. The tiramisu, panna cotta, and budino get called out over and over, and skipping dessert here is a mistake you will think about on the drive home.

Two things to plan around. Valenza is dinner only, seven nights a week, and the doors do not open until 5 PM. And parking is valet through the main Village Place entrance, so do not waste twenty minutes hunting for a street spot.

Some shops make you slow down the second you walk in. Phoenix & Dragon does it with a wall of incense, a stand of old hardwoods out the windows, and a few cats who patrol the floor like they pay the lease.

Candace Apple opened the doors back in 1987, and the place has grown into 5,500 square feet of books, crystals, candles, tarot and oracle decks, herbs, and gemstone jewelry. There is a quiet meditation garden out back if you need a minute.

What actually keeps people coming back is the staff. Reviewers say they know their stock cold and will steer you to the right book or stone without that hovering, did-you-find-everything pressure. Book a psychic reading, drop into a workshop, or just wander and pet a cat. Nobody rushes you.

It sits right on Roswell Road and it is open seven days a week. Go on a day when you actually have time to linger, because you will want it.

Brookhaven's City Council was set for a final vote on June 23 to raise the city property tax rate to 3.850 mills, a jump of about 47 percent. City Manager Christian Sigman says the roughly $4 million in new revenue is what it takes to keep current services running, and points to the residential tax freeze plus a wave of successful commercial appeals as the reason the city is short.

On an $800,000 home, the city's own math comes out to about $395 more a year. Not everyone was sold. The proposal drew real pushback at the June 9 hearing, including from former Mayor Max Davis.

The vote landed right before this issue hit your inbox, so check the final number before you build it into your budget.

Right across the city line, Dunwoody is going the other direction. At its June 15 hearings the council moved to hold its millage rate flat at 3.04, which Finance Director Richard Platto says is the lowest in DeKalb County. A one-mill homestead break drops the effective rate to 2.040 for homeowners.

Mayor Lynn Deutsch also made a point worth filing away for tax time: DeKalb school taxes, not city taxes, make up about 80 percent of a typical Dunwoody bill.

The final hearing is July 1 if you want to say something before the budget is adopted.

Sandy Springs kicked off something it is calling "The Next Chapter," a joint rewrite of its Comprehensive Plan and its Recreation and Parks Master Plan. It is the first real refresh since 2019.

These are the documents that decide land use, housing, and where the next parks and trails actually go. That makes right now the early window to weigh in, before any of it gets locked in. The first workshop was June 23 at City Springs, and the online input hub at planthenextchapter.org stays open.

Mayor Rusty Paul framed it as steering growth while protecting the character residents care about. If you have a take on density, green space, or traffic, this is where it counts.

Sandy Springs showed off plans for a new Fire Station 4 at a June 17 open house. The station shifts about 1.7 miles, from its current spot just inside Atlanta on Wieuca Road to 5275 Roswell Road, into a two-story, 22,000-square-foot building with three drive-through bays. The whole point is faster response times on the north end of the city.

Construction starts this fall, with the doors expected to open in December 2027. The city paid $10 million for the 6.6-acre site last summer, part of a bigger overhaul of its fire stations.

Dunwoody is weighing bike lanes on Ashford Center Parkway, which would mean dropping the road from two lanes to one in each direction. Not everyone is on board.

A handful of residents pushed back at the June 15 meeting, worried about piling more traffic onto a road that already backs up. Mayor Deutsch said a traffic study should come first, and Council Member John Heneghan called it "a lot of overreach."

Nothing is settled. Staff floated a $75,000 design and study contract, and a public feedback meeting is planned for this winter, so there is still time to weigh in.

Some cats audition hard for a home. Jane just sits there being lovely and lets you come to her.

She is an adult calico and domestic shorthair mix, mostly white with black spots and the faintest freckles of orange that barely earn her the calico name. She and her sister Mary were rescued together after someone left them behind outside an apartment building, and the two have stuck close ever since.

The rescue calls her zen, and that lands. She is quiet and easygoing, happy to share a room without needing to run it. But there is a curious, playful streak under the calm. She watches what is going on, trails you around, and is smart enough to invent her own fun on her own terms. Low maintenance, friendly, easy to have around.

One honest note, because you should know going in: she is still learning the litter box. A patient adopter who can help her settle will do right by her. She also does her best work in a calm home with no other pets, where she is not competing for the attention. And if she goes home with Mary, even better. The two are bonded and clearly a comfort to each other.

A Bronx-bred Friars Club regular opens the Sunday slate. A good early show if you want to be home at a decent hour.

By late June the World Cup is down to the games that actually matter, and Sandy Springs found the right way to watch them. City Springs is turning City Green into one big outdoor watch party on Sunday afternoon. The whole idea is to catch the match with a few hundred neighbors instead of alone on your couch.

Two 14-foot screens. Food trucks. Pop-up bars, including an official World Cup margarita if that is your speed. There is open grass to throw down a blanket, yard games to keep the kids busy, and a net set up so somebody is always kicking a ball around between plays.

The timing is the best part. June 28 is when the Round of 32 kicks off, so the tournament is in the knockout stage now. Win and you move on. Lose and you go home. A game with those stakes gets a crowd on its feet, and it hits totally different when a few hundred people groan and cheer in the same second.

So pack a couple of chairs, grab the family, and get there early enough to claim a good patch of grass. Free, no ticket, no reservation.
